Sea Kayaking Basics at Foster City

Learn to Sea Kayak with Blue Waters Kayaking in your own back yard! This full day on the water begins with an orientation to sea kayaks and kayaking accessories in addition to kayaking safety. All the basic sea kayak paddle strokes will be taught including the power forward stroke, reverse stroke, sweep, draw and brace strokes. The highlight of the class is learning the "wet exit" and the two different re-entry techniques. During lunch, we will discuss tides and current issues specific to the Bay Area paddling destinations. Come and learn from ACA Certified professional instructors. All equipment is provided including closed deck single cockpit sea kayaks, paddle, wet suit, PFD, spray skirt, paddling jacket, bilge pump and paddle float. Participants are required to provide wet shoes, a synthetic layer for the torso, sun protection, lunch & bottled water.

Baire Island Tour, from Redwood City Marina

Join expert naturalists and sea kayak guides from Blue Waters Kayaking for a day of paddling and exploring the Baire Island and Corkscrew Slough. Home to hundreds of species of birds, harbor seals and intertidal plants and animals, this is a perfect place to start your kayaking career. No experience necessary! Our tour begins at the Redwood City Marina with an introduction to basic kayaking accessories and paddle strokes. We will then launch our kayaks and begin exploring the area. All equipment is provided including very stable, double cockpit closed deck kayaks, PFD, paddle, paddling jacket and spray skirt. Participants must a synthetic layer for the torso, wet shoes, sun protection, lunch & bottled water.
